Driving Directions

From all points except the coast:
Take I-5 to Redding. In Redding, take the exit for Hwy 44 West toward Eureka. After 2.6 miles, turn right onto Highway 299 West toward Weaverville/Eureka. Follow Hwy 299 for 38 miles until you come to Highway 3 and turn left toward Hayfork. Follow Hwy 3 for 24 miles, through the town of Hayfork, until you see the sign for Hyampom and turn right, onto Hyampom Road. Continue on Hyampom Road for 22 miles. As you approach the village of Hyampom, you will see the Hyampom Cemetery and a sign reading "Welcome to Hyampom." Then turn left onto Lower South Fork Road.  River Rock Retreat is the first driveway, 100 Lower South Fork Road, with "The Wroe's Garden" sign hanging over the gate.

From Hwy 101 near Eureka and other coastal areas:
Take Hwy 299 east through Weaverville, about 93 miles. Seven miles past Weaverville turn right on Hwy 3 toward Hayfork, then continue as described above.

For the adventurous, there is a shorter route in summer months: just past Big Bar on 299 take a right on Corral Bottom Rd. (also known as Underwood Mountain Rd.), a paved forest service road, about 23 miles to Hyampom. As you enter Hyampom, the road becomes School House Road and ends in a Tee intersection. Turn right, then immediately left; cross the bridge over Hayfork Creek and bear right onto Lower South Fork Road. River Rock Retreat is the first driveway on the right. This will cut about an hour off your trip, but it is not recommended for first-time visitors to the area. You might like to try it on your way home instead.

From Hwy 101 near Fortuna:
Take Hwy 36 east for 72 miles, turn left on Hwy 3 north toward Hayfork, 12 miles, then left on Hyampom Road as above. The driving time from Fortuna is about 2 hours 45 minutes.
